Nothing can make me tear up faster than watching people have fun dancing. I still remember shedding a tear watching this video. I love that all these folks look like they are enjoying themselves, and it’s for a good cause.

<3 <3 <3! If only every day at the hospital could be like this.

CNN’s Hero of the Year is a Filipino.

Efren Peñaflorida, who started a “pushcart classroom” in the Philippines to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership, has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year. (via)

Not to mention, my tuition goes up to $41,700 next year, 7000, more than this year, and projected $45, 000 by the time I graduate. Hastings is officially the most expensive law school in California (more than Stanford). Oh, and the Blue and Gold Program which guarantees aid to recipients w/ household earning <$70,000 does not extend to graduate programs.
Good thing a bachelor’s degree means more than an abstract credential in this day and age. Oh wait…

Wow, that is ridiculous. Next year, tuition will completely double my 1st year tuition.

sickening.

Dear Grey’s Anatomy (and media in general),

Please stop degrading nurses. We hear those one-liners, those snide little remarks. Excuse me, but I’m not laughing.

At the rate we’re going, the sad truth is that you’re all likely going to end up in the hospital at some point in time. And when that day comes, we will be directly responsible for your life for 12 hours at a time. You better hope when it’s your turn, you’ve got an intelligent, proactive, and vigilant team of nurses on your side who will catch everyone else’s mistakes, stop the wrong device or medicine from going into your body, and give a damn about you when no one else will give you the time of day.

Beyond the bedside, you also better hope that you’ve got smart, active nurses working in your community, at the table helping to make viable policy decisions, running your prevention programs, and contributing to research to make sure you’re getting the most effective, most efficient, and highest quality care.

Health care is a team effort. From the janitor to the chief of staff, we all have a hand in what happens to your health and well-being—inside the hospital and out. Think twice before you decide to put down the hard work of others. That’s the smart thing to do.

I love love LOVE the night before a new rotation. Do I dread having to get up at the buttcrack of dawn? Always. Will I ever feel I’ve prepped enough? Probably not. But damn do I love the anticipation of diving into a new unit headfirst. Seriously. It’s hard for me to sit still right now.

I’ll be working in the Stroke Center at Cedars for awhile. Neuro + cardio + telemtry + tons and tons of patient/family education and interaction. Kid in a candy store.

BTW, my parents surprised me tonight by bringing me homemade Filipino food. Not the heart-attack-on-a-platter kind. Had this been a few years ago they probably would have brought lechon or kaldereta. But Nope! Fish, shrimp, and lumpia tonight. We’re making some progress!

But damn, just thinking about lechon…kaldereta…*slobber*…*slap* iknowbetteriknowbetteriknowbetter…

Filipino American RN student. Oi the internal conflicts. :P
